I'm pretty much smack dab in the the middle of downtown Edmonton. Unlike Vancouver, being downtown is a bad thing. There's not much going on but that's not really a big deal for me. First thing I did was research what kind of events were going on that night. Vue magazine is Edmonton's "Georgia Straight" and within minutes I found exactly was I was going to do that night. Vancouver to Edmonton
Hi folks and welcome to my Canarail journal. This trip has been in the works ever since my Uncle Joe first mentioned how cheap it is to get a pass and traverse the country. I would like to thank APS for all time off I get per year for making this all possible. Today I woke up to a dark, gloomy, and wet sky. So nothing out of the ordinary. Normally I would think "Why am I such an idiot for staying in this god forsaken rain soaked city...", but then I realized that I'm out of here for 4 weeks. See ......

Ditching XML document Byte Order Mark (BOM)
It came to my attention recently that some XML output (ASX files) is not working on the Mac platform. Asx is the Windows Media playlist file format. I am using the XmlTextWriter object to output to a text file, and these files are located on a webserver so people can click on them and listen to pretty music. Unfortunately these files don't work on the mac because it chokes on the BOM. Removing the BOM fixed the issue. Yay, I'm happy and so is the client. Unfortunately I'm left feeling like I shouldn't ......
