The Monday Postback
Postback 08302010 – This past week I met with a co-worker/friend of mine to discuss some of the WP7 Apps we’ve planned on creating this year. I think its best to really lay everything out on the table at the start of a project and get a firm grasp of what is needed to be programmed at the beginning. I absolutely loved this process too and recommend it before any actual building of a project takes place. In our case we’ve had a few ideas that are pretty good and came to some interesting conclusions ......

Mobile App Match
One of the biggest features that I always heard about with the iPhone is it has an App for everything. Must suck to be an iPhone developer right about now with everything having been created already. Sure looks like it’s a great time to get in on building Apps for Windows Mobile or more specific the Windows Phone 7 device even. In fact you only have to visit the Mobile App Match site to learn what people want and what some of the Devs are creating even. I think this site can be a great source of ......

The Monday Postback
Postback 08232010 – Well its already come and gone, another week has passed and I didn’t accomplish as much as I’d hoped for the week. Fact is sometime you have to just take a step back in order to take two steps forward it seems. Phone 5 is dead That’s correct, I’ve managed to burn through 5 HTC Touch XV6900s with Verizon in the span of only months for each of them. This last time seems to be something totally different and left my phone with out the ability to power on. The other 4 all failed with ......

WP7 and Xbox Live Messaging
Announced today during gamescom 2010 in Cologne Germany was some huge news for those of us looking forward to Windows Phone 7 and mobile gaming on Xbox Live. Not only do we now have an extensive list of games coming out at launch, but they have also given us some solid details on what to expect from the Games Hub and Xbox Live as well. One of the best features I’m happy to hear about is that Live Messaging between your Gaming friends will be available via the WP7 device. That means we can stay in ......

The Monday Postback
Wow its already another Monday and that means its time for the Postback report and a quick overview of some of the things I did this past week. I started playing around with some App ideas and using some sample data and binding with Silverlight for a WP7 app with Expression Blend. I’m having a blast and learning as well. Whistle while you work On the work side of things and where I earn a daily living… we’ve finally launched our first site using Sitefinity, so its time for me to move onto the next ......

MSDN for the win!
I’d say this one of the coolest offerings for most Businesses and their Developers these days from Microsoft. Coming from a Dev Shop that uses a lot of Microsoft Products on a daily basis, its nice to have access to this vast collection of their Software & Tools over the course of a given year, through the Microsoft Developer Network. But it doesn’t stop with just their Software Catalog on MSDN. In a lot of cases you also gain access to try out even much more than just their Software. How about ......

What is Windows Phone 7?
For me, its the smart phone that really speaks to me. When news about this device came out this past February and they showed off the interface and what was planned, I had a huge smile on my face and said, "I just can't wait!" The last time I was all over something like this, was when news came out about the Xbox 360 Elites and luckily for me, that was a shorter wait. So what is so cool about this device? For me, it takes a lot of the things I currently enjoy and packages them into one single device ......

The Monday Postback
Time for the Monday Postback (08.09.2010), this is where I'll do a brief rundown of last weeks progress here at dotGeek. Kind of easy to report back with not a whole lot really in the beginning, having just started things off... but here goes nothing. So I've settled on the template "Dirtylicious" and kicked things off this past Friday with my first post. Took me just a bit to find the templates, they seemed to be wedged between things and not really obvious. I suppose I was just use to some of the ......

Another Geek is in the house
Hey, thanks for stopping in here at dotGeek HQ and checking out what I have going on in here. I’m just now moving in and starting to get things set up in here. I’m Robert Owens and I think I’ll go over what I have planned for dotGeek and will provide a little bit about myself to start off with first. By day, I’m the Director of Websites for the American Paint Horse Association and over the years I’ve found that I’ve grown even fonder of horses I’d have to say. I think that helps me out with all of ......
