Just testing this new tool at that can be downloaded from here. A friend of mine has a post explaining what he likes and dislikes about the product and that can be found here. Now let's just say I live somewhere in the map below. I can't wait to start using the other features of this tool of off-line posting as I am a consultant and do sometimes spend lot of time en-route to where I'm going or waiting for a flight here and there, this would had come in handle over the winter. [Updated] To setup Windows ...

Greetings all. I'm testing out windows live writer as an alternative to w.bloggar for creating blog posts...

First impressions are good... I like the way that it gives me a proper preview as it will look in the web. I also like the UI (very Word-esque), and the fact that I can save drafts etc...

I think I'll be using this from now on! :)

In my job, I work with many emerging and recently emerged software technologies from many vendors. It is often difficult to resolve issues with these products as there isn't a large body of knowledge available. What I've been found incresingly over the last year or so is that most of the documentation and certainly support is coming through blog entries. I can appreciate that Q&A and out of the ordinary things that don't make traditional support documentation is perhaps best communicated through ...
I need to post more.. I know that but my problem for not posting is part technology and part laziness. It is such a pain to deal with a web app that needs to manage state and looses my edits when IE crashes. I am trying Windows Live Writer, hoping it will help. A desktop app that lets you save drafts locally. It has a plug in for Flikr so if I wish I can finally put together the post that I have been to lazy to produce because I do not want to host images, on my ftp server. Heck I can keep coming ...
I'm very impressed with Windows Live Writer, and I'm sure you are tired of reading about it. After all, there is no shortage of blogs writing about this blog writer. Try to hold on for just one more :) I get emails from various groups within our office, be it the CEO, HR Manager, or IT Helpdesk. It may be a reminder about an upcoming maintenance outage, information about our benefit changes, or the state of the union. I've felt for a long time that it would be much better if some of these stuff was ...
HeHeHe... Microsoft is leaving Java in the dust, but the company still has room to grow in the developer arena, a key executive said. "Five years ago we had problems with J2EE [Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition]," Muglia said. However, "We've grown from having a quarter of the market to, now, 60 percent," he said. "J2EE has run its course," Muglia said. Read Microsoft: .Net Beat Java, Who's Next? (First post using Windows Live Writer) ...
So everyone is talking about Live Writer and how amazing it is blah blah blah. Yeah, we get it...Live Writer is awesome, I agree. But there's another tool that's very kewl as well that comes with Windows Live Toolbar (something that you can have installed when installing Live Writer). The app is called Onfolio, and its an add in that basically kicks the living bejeesus out of the native Feed support in IE 7.0. I actually was using Flock as my aggregator, but it was a pain to switch back and forth ...
Courtesy of the latest issue of WXPNews, I came across a very cool new blogging tool, named Windows Live Writer. This is a desktop application that makes it very easy to write new blog posts by providing a WYSIWYG ("What You See Is What You Get") editor that reminds me of a slimmed down version of Microsoft Word. Windows Live Writer has some pretty cool features, like the ability to automatically spell check your blog posts before posting them and automatically saving a draft every x minutes. While ...
At last Microsoft has launched a blog writing tool! Windows Live Writer is a desktop application that makes it easier to compose compelling blog posts using Windows Live Spaces or your current blog service. Blogging has turned the web into a two-way communications medium. Our goal in creating Writer is to help make blogging more powerful, intuitive, and fun for everyone. Writer has lots of features which we hope make for a better blogging experience. Some of the ones we are most excited about include: ...

I just started using Windows Live Writer and immediately started looking for a plugin for inserting code snippets into posts. Here's one I found and have used successfully.

My previous post, A Primer on Using Custom Windows Performance Counters with .NET, was written using Windows Live Writer. On the whole, I'm pleased. Writing text was like using Word without all the "please buy an upgrade" features Microsoft has thrown in over the years. The big disappointment was pasting in code. If you paste in WYSIWYG mode, it correctly replaces < and > with entity references, BUT, it also strips all the leading spaces. You can go to HTML mode and manually enter <PRE> ...
If you can read this then Windows Live Writer did its duty and submitted it correctly. I did not blog so much lately because I did try to get some articles at CodeProject up. If you want to see how various functions of StringBuilder and String perform you can have a look here. A quick introduction into the System.Configuration namespace of .NET 2.0 where you learn how to read/write your App.Config file is also worth a look. To make things complete I did dive into the dark corners of my processor ...
If you have already configured Windows Live Writer with one of your Blog and want to configure your another blog also (something like configuring multiple accounts in your MS Outlook). I would say yes you can do it. Steps are as under: 1. Select the Menu Weblog-->Add Weblog Account.. as shown in the picture 2. You will be prompted with the Choose Blog Type screen, select the appropriate option, I will be configuring my GeeksWithBlogs.Net blog (as I already have configured my Live Spaces blog). ...
Once you write a blog post, it is good to have your editor ping a few of your favorite blog post repositories to help drive traffic to you blog. Windows Live Writer (Beta) allows you to setup a list of sites you want to ping once you posted. Here are the steps to make that possible: Open Windows Live Writer (Beta) Click Tools...Preferences Click on the Ping Servers link on the left side of the Preferences window Add the list of sites you would like to ping once your post is published. Here is my ...
Christoph De Baene is currently working on a plugin for Windows Live Writer that will enable you to add syntax colored blocks of code. This post is me testing this plugin and I must say that this is a must have plugin, you will definitely like it! public class TagContentSource : ContentSource { public override DialogResult CreateContent(IWin32Window dialogOwner, ref string newContent) { using (InsertTags tagForm = new InsertTags(new TagContext(base.Options))) { DialogResult formResult = tagForm.ShowDialog(); ...
The Facts OK, as everybody, I had to write my first Windows Live Writer post, like everybody else did, that's what you are reading right now! If you haven't checked it out already, Windows Live Writer is a blog authoring software from Microsoft, which has become a top topic in the blogsphere lately; it's released with an SDK which some people also had good experience with, used mainly for posting to Windows Live spaces, yet supports many other blogging engines including Movable Type, Blogger.com, ...
Microsoft has just published my article about Windows Live Services in MSDN Windows Vista and Microsoft Office Beta Experience Newsletter: In the first days after .NET platform was released it was pretty hard to distinct between the core technology platform and products which had .NET as part of their names. (Can you still remember the names like .NET Passport, SQL Server.NET or Windows .NET Server?). As Microsoft has announced the Windows Live and Office Live few months ago I had the strange déjà ...

I am trying out Windows Live Writer.

It looks pleasing.

Its got a nice and easy interface.

http://www.windowsxlive.net/?p=87

Its not bad, does all the basic stuff, except for one. No shortcut key for insert picture from the web, even worse no toolbar option for it.

It looks like the current build of Windows Live Messenger (8.0.0792.00) will be replaced soon by a new build versioned 8.0.0812.00. The update is not available yet through the automatic update feature built-in to the Windows Live Messenger application. By the time you read this this build should be available too through the official channels. Some important changes (source):Less crashes (which I personally find a great feature)Better audio & video qualityFixed a whole bunch of connectivity issuesHere ...
So I learned this morning that I could add my Yahoo IM “buddies” to my Windows Live Messenger! Cool. I simply signed up, logged off and back on as told and was prompted to download the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. During the upgrade though I got a 1603 message. I couldn't successfully reinstall the Messenger after the rollback though. As always I hit the boards and found a bunch of people had the same problem. One post here pointed to the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. This tool ...
The new feature that allows Windows Live Messenger Beta users to connect directly to Yahoo! Messenger users is disappointing. The main reason is that the new feature will only work if your Yahoo! Messenger friends are running the latest beta version. Cosidering how bad the current Yahoo! Messenger 8 Beta version is, it's unlikely that many people will use it anytime soon. So it's unlikely any of my Y!M contacts will be available to me through the superior Windows Live Messenger. It's as if the lame ...
I have been an IM user since around 1999, when Yahoo! Messenger first came out. Since then, I've added AIM and Windows Live Messenger. As instant messegng became an integrated part of my personal and professional life, the one thing that has always bothered me was that I needed 3 IM clients, one for each service. There are several third-party IM clients, such as Jabber and Trillian, that federate the main IM services. The problem I have with these clients is that I need to sign up with them, which ...
a while back I posted about a few minor difficulties and annoyances with Windows Live Messenger (BETA). You can of course read the original post if you care. Short version is... I didn't like it, so I uninstalled it. Well... I'm happy to say, I reinstalled it recently and wow... definitely liking it a lot better. Good job guys! More features than Google Talk and nowhere near as annoying as the Yahoo and AOL chat clients. (OMG, don't get me started on those...) I'm already using it more than Google ...
Yeah I know I'm super late in writing about the release of Windows Live Messenger, but better late than not writing about some of the little know super cool things about Windows Live Messenger. Recently I endeavoured to purchase a laptop on eBay. Being a relatively sophisticated user I figured I could find and discern the validity of a decent deal. I did succeed (well, waiting on the arrival at the moment is more accurate) in finding a good deal. Throughout the process, however, I received numerous unsolicited emails offering up similar items. The people who sent the emails purported to be the seller of the item which the referenced: Message from eBay Member rocobar431 I am the seller of ...

Google may want to organize the world's information, but Microsoft wants to let you know how long you're going to have to wait for a table at Red Lobster on Friday evening. WebProNews Reports: Imagine a world where your Windows Mobile smartphone can pull up a Windows Local Live map with specific details about your city: which florist has peach calla lilies and birds of paradise in stock; where to find the closest Godiva chocolate boutique; and whether or not you can find a parking space near your ...
1. Just realized that I just can't send an attachment or receive one with out having a anti-virus scan it. Good thing is that there Windows Live Safety Scanner that you can install right from your Options menu. I sense Windows Live Messenger moving toward a true SIP product soon. 2. Well I just received some info that the Beta version of Academic search for Windows Live is now available, and I thought it would be useful to any students, lecturers or academics to know about. Google have their verison and now Microsoft have theirs too! It's another useful source of information but it's only in beta version. It's worth anyone interested in it having a look and giving feedback on it as feedback shapes the way these softwares work. The Windows Live Academic Search beta is designed ...

I have some Windows Live Mail invites available, first come, first serve. You must have a HotMail account (natch) to join.
My Windows Live jacket arrived in the post this morning. It's actually pretty nice! I was surprised, pleasantly surprised with it. :) I've not heard all that much from the guys working over there on the team recently and I do wonder what their next big surprise will be... what they have been working on over the last few months. It all seems to be being kept under wraps at the moment. I guess they are looking at getting something funky out there again this month.... Time will tell. Anyway, I just ...

I've got about 40 Invites for Windows Live Messenger to give away - leave a comment if you need one.

I had a quick look over the latest Windows Live Search product that was released earlier this week. On the whole I was quite impressed. It gave me information about people who link to my blog and who talk about London Girl Geek Dinners that I never knew exisited. Some don't come up on the Google search at all. However on the other side of things, the list that is there is not extensive and although it stated a set number of results it didn't show all the results that it said were available. It seems ...
Anybody here (besides me) planning to attend MIX06 in March? Looks like a pretty interesting event with some info on Windows Live and IE7 and of course Uncle Bill will be giving the keynote so that should be interesting as well. Taking a look at the MIX blog reveals that the keynote might be a bit more interactive than most. Apparently Tim O'Reilly will be involved along with an opportunity for some audience questions. 50 sessions lined up so far, including people from Amazon, Ebay, PayPal and MySpace. ...
The Microsoft Windows Live team got a small number of developers, users and bloggers together to let them know about the latest and greatest developments along with a few details about their direction over the next few months. The basics of what they said were that they are looking to have a consistent interface between Messenger, Spaces, portal, search etc. This is so that people don't think they are all created by different teams etc. It will be interesting to see how they approach this. They are ...
I recently received an invite to try out Windows Live Messenger (beta). I downloaded and installed it. That went easy enough. It was ok at first, then I realized it imported my entire hotmail contacts list into the client, including a hell of a lot of people who aren't using MSN messenger. Ok no big deal, I'll just remove them from my list. Uhh... I can't remove them from my buddy list without also removing them from my Hotmail address book?? WTF? Ok, that's kinda forgiveable... I guess (not really, ...

For example MSN Messenger will become Windows Live Messenger with the next version. MSN will ...
