Enterprise Technology Thought Leadership in a FTSE 100
Bless Grady Booch! Love him or hate him you can't keep him down! Just only a few weeks after open heart surgery he has posted another classic! This time Grady has decided to take a few pot-shots at SOA picking fairly and squarely on the hype. Well to be honest Grady, IBM doesn't actually get away scott-free when it comes to SOA marketing hype, the 'middleware' campaign over the summer springs to mind. Anyway, I for once pretty much agree with him on this one, infact I touched on this a few months ......
Recently, I purchased two new URL's http://www.EnterpriseArchit... & http://www.EnterpriseArchit... these URL's are linked to this blog from the moment, but this is not my long term aim! What I would like to do is turn these two pages into link pages to other Technical/Solutions/Enterprise Architects blogs and sites. I'm also happy to setup email redirects as well so you can have a more appropriate email address for our profession. My intention is to also continue to purchase other ......
Virtual Environments are very much in vogue right now because of the obvious advantages they bring in getting the most out of your hardware investment, infact having a large server these days running just one single OS does seem such a waste. There is a down-side, the most common problem encountered with virtual environments is resource hogging. How do you prevent a virtual server or especially a virtual application from stealing all your processor time and/or memory? With environments such as Citrix, ......
All, This is a fantastic paper from ARM Research that sums-up the current state of play in the SOA market with IBM and Microsoft here. I am constantly frustrated why Microsoft doesn't shout from the roof-tops that it has a compelling SOA solutions. I believe Microsoft infact has the most complete end-to-end tool-set for SOA. The article states that the reason is "Microsoft believes that eventual backlash to all the hype around SOA shifts focus away from the real benefits that SOA can bring, so it ......
Thanks to Grady Booch for point this out. "A Big Ball of Mud is a haphazardly structured, sprawling, sloppy, duct-tape-and-baling-wire, spaghetti-code jungle. These systems show unmistakable signs of unregulated growth, and repeated, expedient repair. Information is shared promiscuously among distant elements of the system, often to the point where nearly all the important information becomes global or duplicated. The overall structure of the system may never have been well defined. If it was, it ......
At this moment in time I am really getting into the challenges of our SOA implementation. It is clear that we are not going to be able to achieve all we would like to in this phase of the project as there are more important things to get done in the times scales. The Data Search Façade One of the elements of the project is that two important pieces of data reside in multiple systems. What the existing legacy application does is to search each of these system in turn until it finds a match, then ......

Other news coming in is that there is a risk of an European Channel 9 Geek Meet, I'll keep you posted.
Back to Earth after my Channel 9 video. In this post I want to discuss some of my recent experiences implementing SOA. It’s important to take everyone with you. SOA is a Sea-Change in the way programs are developed and implemented in an organisation. The concept of an ‘Application’ is very much redefined. It’s so important that the reason why are communicated not only to key stake-holder in business, but everyone in the I.T department, specially those that are at the coal ......
Ian, Barry, my wife and I are featured in a C9 video thats currently on the front page of Channel 9. C9's Charles is behind the camera. The video was recorded in August during Charles visit to the UK. The video has a simple bit of London sight-seeing at the start, then a good old drunken tech debate where we all put the C9 world to rights. It is funny and embarrassing, we cover topics such as C9's Eagle, WGA, bondage and squeeky voices! It's all good fun, I really hope you enjoy it. The permie link ......
