Geeks With Blogs

About Me:
I am a Female SharePoint Developer (a platinum unicorn). I have been working with SharePoint since I attended the Portal University in 2005. I hold a BA in Computer Science from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. I love playing Rockband, organizing user group meetings, working with code, attending events as a speaker or organizer, and having bizarre conversations about geek things with cool people. If you have any comments or questions fill out the contact form and I will try my best to help.

The Guide of a MOSSLover Becky Isserman's Blog

So about a year ago Michael Lotter handed over the reigns to SharePoint Saturday New York City to Jason Gallicchio and myself.  I had no real idea what this meant, because each city you run an event in is different.  You have to learn the rules about that city.  Kansas City I had to fight for speakers, sponsors, attendees, and volunteers.  What I quickly learned about New York City is that I have a tiny amount of space and more people who would like to use it than I had the room for.

If you look at the event from 2010 you will notice it was a huge experiment, because I had just moved to the area and Jason and I were trying to get our bearings straight.  I think we did a good job for two people running a massive event.  We needed more people next year, so we coerced Greg Hurlman into doing the event.  Somehow as the planning went on and things got to be too much we grabbed a few others, such as Tasha Scott as a volunteer coordinator and Tom Daly as the sponsor coordinator.  For me this was huge, because I was delegating.  We had a lot of people doing various tasks and it was awesome.  So as a result I think the event was a lot more polished this year.

If you look we realized that we needed to block the food and we had a nice big line so that the speakers all got fed.  Everyone ended up getting a food box that wanted a food box.  We had more than enough cookies and coffee to go around.  I think that Greg choosing Joe Coffee was a bonus.  It was an event we should all be proud of for running.  From the volunteers to the speakers to the tracks to the attendees I think it went over incredibly smooth.  The quality of the products we had from bags to shirts were great.  The quality of the volunteers were high.   I want to thank all the speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and attendees.  Some shout outs to Andy Norris, Steve Bohlen, Wayne Richmond, Greg Hurlman, Jason Gallicchio, Bob Hunt, Cathy Dew, Lori Gowin, Eric Harlan, Pedro Jimenez, Tom Daly, Tasha Scott, Michael Lotter, Miguel Valasquez, Ada Gallicchio, Kris Wagner, Nedra Allmond, and Carlos Valcerel.

The only complaint about the event I have is a lack of bathrooms and a lack of space to walk, but next year we are changing facilities.  So next year we have some prospects and if anyone else has a possible venue let us know.  I’ll catch you all later.
