Building a Web 2.0 Portal with ASP.NET 3.5 by Omar AL Zabir

I'm sick of 600 page tomes that take the MSDN content and just add intro-style samples.  Omar brings the saga of the startup utilizing Ajax, ASP.NET 3.5, LINQ and Windows WF.  Some things are out there for me (like Extenders) but the real- world aspect is breath of fresh air.  Performance and measurement are strewn throughout.  Examples of Omar's failures will hopefully save us time.  Topics like Thirteen Production Disasters That Could Happen at Anytime are a treat.

I've read the entire book, many parts more than once. In fact it's sitting two feet from me right now.

My take is that it is full of useful information, but it's not that well written. You need to download the source code and really dig into it and the book together to get the whole picture. There are many omissions and minor differences between the two. Other problems are that the code can get sloppy and I felt he was trying to use features of 3.5 to help sell the book rather than build the best DropThings he could.

But if you can look past those problems, it contains some very valuable information.
